I think I'm finding a lot of products incorrectly sold as a HDMI to VGA cable, although as finnw points out, a closer reading of the specs shows that this is backwards. This helps to clear up the situation. More expensive true converters can be found. Are you sure it's not your monitor failing to sync to the resolution used by your RPi?

Again there is no audio support. There is another adapter made by the same manufacturer that has audio support built-in, but I haven't tried that one with the Raspberry Pi. Although this adapter states it is for the Raspberry Pi and sounds promising from the description the other adapter works better with other the Raspberry Pi.
