Install tail gate straps on s-10 chevy

The tailgate cables on my s pickup truck snapped in two att he same causing the tailgate to pinch my hand. Upon inspection it appears that the sheathing was breached and the cables have corroded that are inside the sheathing.

Both tailgate cables broke. The driver's side was found broken, which broke at some unknown time. The passenger side failed while I was sitting on the tail gate.

I use this truck for occasional hauling of materials and these could have failed while under load. No heavy loads were on the gate at the time. I looked at the cable and it had rusted inside the plastic covering.

It looks like the plastic cover holds water inside and causes the corrosion. I called a chevy dealer and was told they would not replace it, but I found a recall on other chevy trucks with the same problem. The support cables on my chevy S10 broke unexpectedly while I was sitting on the tailgate. Both cables were corroded at the same point where they bend. As a result of the breakage, the tailgate hit the bumper and was dented in two places. These were the first dents ever for my truck.

The caller said the strap on the left side of truck that holds the tailgate broke. There was a recall on other trucks but not this one. Dealer said this truck is not involved in the recall. Manufacturer said the samething.

The cables which support the tailgate on my s broke suddenly on both sides damaging the tailgate. The tailgate cables snapped and the consumer fell on the ground. The consumer was sitting on the tailgate when both right and left cables broke at the same time. Consumer has a problem with the tailgate cord fraying. Consumer had this problem repaired at own expense. Similar larger trucks have had this problem recalled. And they look good! I recommend this item! The only problem I encountered was removing the old broken cable.
